History of Medicine
If you think about it, Medicine has evolved a lot to help the lives of people, which is one of the reasons why people live longer today than people thousands or even hundreds of years ago.
Medicine, like other experimental designs, goes through ups and down, and the most effective ways are kept and built upon. |
Medical Terminology
If you are interested to continue your career in the medical field, there is a certain jargon that doctors use.
Here I explore some of those terms! |
Orthopedics
This branch of medicine deals with the bones and joints of the body. It helps treat a wide scope of musculoskeletal diseases and injuries.
If you have ever broken a bone in sports, this is the kind of doctor that helped you recover. The treatments of these kind of injuries can be as simple as compressions or icing or can be more complex such as surgery or casting. |
Radiology
Radiology is a branch of medicine that uses different imaging techniques to look at the structure of different body parts.
These imaging machines sometimes show the function of certain areas as well and are used to detect diseases. You might have heard of some of these machines: the MRI, X-Ray, Sonography, etc. If you have every broken a bone, the doctor sends you to get an X-ray so they can locate the broken bone and identify it. |
Psychology
How would you describe yourself? What kind of personality do you have? What goes through your mind? How do you relate to others?
These, and much more, are topics that a psychologist deals with. Psychology, in simple terms, is the study of behavior and mental processes. It has different branches, for example, social psychology, developmental psychology, biological psychology, counseling psychology, etc. |

Emergency Medicine deals with injuries or illnesses that require urgent care. Their patients are almost always walk-ins (no scheduled appointment) and from all ages. |
Human Evolution
According to Charles Darwin, organisms live to survive, reproduce, and pass on their genes.
Through natural selection, organisms have evolved to become compatible with their environment and be able to survive longer. In the past million years, evolution was the reason we are who we are today. |
Genetics
Genetics is the study of anything related to genes, for example, DNA.
Do you know human DNA is 96% similar to Chimpanzee DNA? Then how do we look and behave so differently than chimpanzees? |
Medical Ethics
Ethics deals with what's right and right. In the medical field as well, ethics set standards that doctors have to follow.
For example, can doctors make romantic relationships with their patients. The short answer is No. |
